If you’re completely new to this concept and have never heard of it before, you may well be wondering: ‘what is site flipping exactly?’ Well, put simply, it’s one of the easiest and most fun ways to earn money on the Internet today. In fact, if you know what you’re doing, we’d go as far as saying that there is no other way to make money online so reliably.
So, let’s use a handy analogy for a moment: think of a website as if it were a hotel.

For one reason or another, this hotel is not reaching its full potential. Maybe it’s dilapidated, has seen better days and is in need of lots of TLC. Perhaps it is under-promoted and doesn’t have the flow of customers it needs. Or it could just be that the owner is retiring, or moving on to start a different type of business. Whatever the reason, the hotel is up for sale.

The best thing about flipping websites is that, if you’re lucky, you can find yourself with a site that is based around a topic you’re really interested in and know a lot about. This makes it much easier to flip it for a profit. It also makes it a lot more fun.
One aspect to note about the approach mentioned in the ‘hotel example’, is that you don’t need to know anything about how to design a website or set it up online (the seller will generally have to walk you through the setting up process in order to transfer ownership to you, and going through the process once will give you all the information you’ll need when it’s your turn to become the seller). If you know how to use a computer and the Internet, that’s more than enough knowledge to get you started. However, this does mean that you must have the funds initially in order to purchase a website.
A more advanced approach to this type of business is to build a site from scratch and then sell it – either after promoting it first so it has a revenue stream, or by trying to sell it ‘straight off the bat’. The major advantage of this approach is how cheap it is. If you are handling the design yourself, then your initial cost is only as high as the cost of your domain name and possibly your hosting, and that can be as little as a few dollars a month.
Designing a site from scratch obviously takes more time and effort than buying one that’s already up and running, but with a plethora of free tools that are available online, these days even an amateur can design a professional-looking, high-quality site without the need for specialist skills. All you need is a good idea and you’re pretty much set.
