The Borrell and Associates Local Online Advertising Forecast report is
out and some of their projections show that there are media streams
growing faster than expected. Now, many take these reports with a grain
of salt and we support the cautious view of any data set released, but
one thing is for sure, the Borrell analyses are pretty bang on when it
comes to trend realisations. However, before we even get into
highlighting some of the interesting data sets found in the report, let
me just say this, do you remember the days when online advertising
accounted for only just 3% of all advertising?
Highlights from the Borrell report:
- Online advertising is scheduled to surpass print media revenues in two years
- 2012 will see online advertising grow by 18%
- 88% of all local online advertising will be viewed on mobile devices including tablets
- For the first time, pure play online media companies are expected to
lose market share, while traditional media companies with online
divisions will gain
- ROS banner sales are expected to decline by 3% in 2012 (no surprise), but targeted banner sales are expected to grow by 18%
- If you thought email marketing was dead, think again. Borrell is forecasting a 9% growth for email
- Audio streaming is expected to grow by 129% by Beverly Crandon
