Top 3 Search Secrets for Maximizing Results

Search marketers are a breed of their own.  They know things about websites that most people glaze over at the beginning of the conversation.  They get as excited about new strategies as others may get at the new deal on Groupon.  So what are their secrets?  We’ve come up with a list of three top tips to help you maximize your results.

First, does your website have natural search visibility?

In other words, when searching for a relevant keyword, does your site come up in the natural search results?  What many people still do not realize is that not optimizing your website is like not taking advantage of the free. So why not take advantage of their “11th meal is free” program at the same time? The same goes for SEO. You’ve already established a presence online.  Take advantage of it!  It’s “free.” Before the site goes live or gets redesigned, you should take into consideration SEO optimizations to help you naturally rank on the first page in the search results.  From there, as direction, content and client goals change; we should continually audit and optimize the sites to ensure they will naturally rank well.

Second, do you have an integrated management approach to PPC and SEO?

Most people will probably say “yes, we consider both PPC and SEO equally important.”  However, are they taking into consideration the effects that using PPC and SEO together can have on your search results?  Now is the time to go one step further by analyzing PPC and SEO campaigns together.  Are there gaps between your SEO and PPC strategies?  Are you bidding on terms that may not obtain the best results due to lack of content?  Are there terms you naturally rank highly for that you could consider bidding lower while still receiving the same click thru rate?  If you’ve never considered these options, now is the time to start.  Search marketers have access to countless tools that can help compare and analyze great insights that can be used to increase your presence online.

Third, are you utilizing social to enhance your strategy?

Social is growing in leaps and bounds.  Incorporating social into your strategy and how to use social outlets to build awareness and engagement with sites is now more important than ever.  The more people we reach the more interest and search engine visibility can be gained.  Link building, content creation (via blogs, press releases, editorials, etc) and paid social can all help increase site visibility and therefore help naturally rank higher.  Update often, update frequently, and have defined goals specifically for the social outlets to properly track outcomes and future improvements.

All in all, search marketing is one of the best ways to start gaining new visits to your website, additional leads and conversions, as well as a way to obtain brand awareness.  Anyone in search marketing will tell you that there are countless strategies that should be pursued, but you should always start with goals, think holistically and optimize frequently.
