Why the new Google Shopping is bad for eCommerce Merchants

From August 15th this year, Google shopping/ merchant/ base/ froogle/ products etc etc will become a paid service. This isn’t breaking news but for some reading this, it will be a shock. Google has been taking steps recently to force companies into using their services because after all, they are a business and they get no business when we click organic results.

When this happens (August 15th if you missed it above!) companies will now have to understand data feeds, most don’t have experience with this technical process. Not to mention shopping carts not being prepared for it.

If you don’t act fast and consider what your current Google shopping traffic means to your business, you will see a dip in revenue. Webtise already has plans for our marketing clients, please get in touch if you need help.

There’s other things to consider too such as how much per click will a sale on a product now cost? Or will I still need to target the long-tail in my PPC?
